Tata Motors has announced the return of the Tata Nano, the small car that once captured the imagination of India. The Nano, originally launched in 2008 as the world’s cheapest car, is making a comeback with a modern electric version. This relaunch aligns with the growing focus on sustainable transportation in India and worldwide.
A Modern Upgrade for a Classic Car
The new Nano will be an electric vehicle (EV), reflecting Tata’s commitment to green mobility. It features a cutting-edge powertrain developed by Electra EV, a Tata subsidiary. The custom-built electric Nano previously tested by Ratan Tata himself has been a key inspiration for this relaunch. It is expected to deliver a range of about 200 kilometers per charge, catering to urban and semi-urban markets. Mahindra Bolero 2024
The car will also see significant improvements in design. A sleek, modern exterior and high-quality interiors will replace the simplistic design of its predecessor. Features like touchscreen infotainment, airbags, and anti-lock braking systems (ABS) will bring the Nano in line with current consumer expectations.
Affordable and Efficient
The Nano’s relaunch stays true to its original purpose: affordability. Reports suggest the EV version will be priced around ₹2.5–3 lakh, making it one of the most economical electric cars in the market. Its efficiency is another highlight, with a claimed mileage of up to 40 km per liter equivalent in terms of electric consumption.

Safety First
Safety has also been a priority in the redesigned Nano. Modern safety features, including airbags, ABS, and enhanced structural integrity, ensure the car meets the latest safety standards. These updates aim to rebuild consumer confidence in the Nano, which faced criticism for lacking such features in its earlier version.
Mass Appeal and Market Goals
Tata Motors aims to sell over 50,000 units annually, focusing on the middle-class segment. The Nano EV is positioned as an affordable alternative to more expensive EVs like the Tata Nexon. By addressing affordability and eco-consciousness, Tata hopes to make EVs accessible to a broader population.
A New Chapter for Nano
The relaunch of the Nano is more than just a business move; it is a revival of Ratan Tata’s vision of providing affordable mobility to Indian families. It also strengthens Tata Motors’ position in the rapidly growing EV market. The new Nano is set to become a symbol of affordable, sustainable, and innovative transportation in India.
Tata Motors has not yet announced the official launch date, but the car is expected to hit the roads by mid-2025. With its competitive pricing, modern features, and eco-friendly focus, the Nano EV is ready to redefine the small car segment once again.
